NATIONAL SINGER SONGWRITER, MICHAEL JOHNATHON
TO PERFORM IN MAUMEE FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY

Join us in welcoming nationally syndicated radio host, host of a PBS television show and singer songwriter, Michael Johnathon to the Maumee Indoor Theatre.  His Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour is changing the way America listens to Americana, Folk, Bluegrass and Old Time Traditional Music.  He will be bringing his own talented musical style to concert,  one night only, April 17, 2008.  Tickets are $10 available at the door.  Doors open at  6:00 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:00 p.m..

Opening the show for Michael Johnathon will be talented regional songwriters from Tedd Swartz’s Red Bird Songwriters Showcase.  These singer-songwriters entertain with their original compositions at the Maumee Indoor Theater and will open the show for this evening’s concert with an offering of their work.

Also, from the Glass City Opry, Toledo’s own bluegrass music concert series, Deepwater Bluegrass will also perform prior to Michael Johnathon.  Deepwater is a Toledo regional band that brings audiences a fresh and fun new introduction to bluegrass music with their traditional and original work.

During the Meet and Greet session from 6 to 7 p.m., join Jim Tichy, spokesman for HonorFlight.org,as he provides information about this wonderful community service dedicated to providing our military veterans free flights to visit the memorials in our nation’s capital.

The Red Bird Songwriter’s Showcase February 28, 2008

We had the opportunity to attend and play a few of our original songs at the Redbird Songwriter’s Showcase in Maumee, at the Maumee Indoor Theatre.  The host, Tedd Swartz, invited Jeff and myself, Sherri, to come and sing a few of our songs that we have written on February 14th, 2008.

We must admit, we were unsure of how it would be recieved… afterall, this was not a bluegrass songwriter’s showcase, rather a acoustic, americana, ah, easy listening sort of crowd to the best of our understanding.  And we couldn’t bring the whole band!  (agh!  We love playing with our whole band!  And well, banjo and bass duets are not really found much in bluegrass… sorry….)  But it was an honor to be asked, so we went.

We met some wonderful people, exposed a audience to our style of writing and had a very nice time.  We got to play our new song, “Follow Me” as well as “Brother Ben”, Back Home in West Virginia”  and a brief round of the instrumental “Backroads” which was a bit thin since it was just Sherri taking a break like 4 times.  (haha)

Still, anytime we get a chance to bring new people into the fold and giving the public a chance to hear some live bluegrass music, then it’s a good thing.

Check out the Redbird Songwriter’s Showcase if you’re in the area… you can learn more at the website…   www.teddswartz.com

It was a stunning fall day at the Trabbic Family Farm! Bright and sunny, yet with a chill cold breeze in the air that makes you know you’re heading into the winter months.

It was delightful to be there, and to share in the last big weekend before Halloween and to see all the children out picking out their jack-o-lantern material! The farm has all sorts of fun activities for children, such as a corn maze, hay rides, farm critters, pumpkins, straw maze and now… bluegrass music!

Deepwater Bluegrass Band performing at the Trabbic Family Farm

It was definately a little brisk, and made for slightly stiff fingers for picking and of course, our accoustic instruments were acting up in a variety of tuning issues, but all in all, it was a great time and we loved entertaining the public to what bluegrass music is all about!

Maggie picking out a pumpkin

My daughters, Maggie and Jessy, came along and we had to bring home two huge pumpkins! Maggie picked out a good one, big and ready to be carved! Jessy took all the pictures we have on our website, that was great. Of course, we had a good flock of Birdwells come in! (g) Thanks to all the people that came and listened during their visit to the Trabbic Family Farm.

It was fun having kids join us and sing along with some good favorite songs done Bluegrass Style! We really enjoyed ourselves… and you should do yourself a favor and bring your family to this great fall fun place!

It’s on Sterns Road, just over the border from Toledo, Ohio, located in Erie, Michigan. 1560 E. Sterns Road. They don’t have a website, but you can Google them for other folks kind words! What a great place!

Yes, we managed to get another Glass City Opry podcast done and in the can. Actually, it’s more, in the computer, but I think you understand! I think we got our technology just a little better on this one… thanks to Mike, we made some little pop screens for our headset mics and that really helped to get rid of the tin can reverby sound of the first one.

I know it’s not totally about Deepwater…. but of course, we mention a lot of good stuff about Toledo area bluegrass and of course, it’s a little self-serving, since we do get to mention the band too! What a deal….

So go and take a look (or a listen) if you’d like!

Guess what?

Sherri is a bluegrass champion! (gg)

Well, at least the Toledo Blade seems to think so! The best part? Since she’s a member of the Deepwater Bluegrass band… Deepwater gets a nice mention in the paper! And it’s kinda need to think that we’re all helping the create a better atmosphere for bluegrasss music in the city and surrounding areas…

If you’d like to go and take a look…. here’s the link for the article:
